Pores are opening on the skin surface through which oil secretes out from the oil gland under it. Thus the size of the pore is directly proportional to the  size of the oil gland under it , the larger glands are responsible for enlarged pores.

In actual practice, there is no cream or lotion which can close the pores  but yes there are some  products which tend to reduce the pore size visibly on skin surface.

So, to check your skin type, first check your pore size. Generally, skin with enlarged pores are oily type and skin with very small pore size are dry skin type.

In combination skin type, when the skin is mixture of  oily and dry type, then the pore size is more enlarged at the the forhead, nose and chin area.

With aging , the gland under the pores tend to become inactive and thus skin starts becoming dry and may result in wrinkles. There are some anti aging wrinkle creams which can be applied to reduce the wrinkles.
